CRUSHINGTON ELECTION.

[to the editob inangahua times.] Sib. — Having read in yonr Monday's issue that C. Mir fin was present at the meeting of Messrs Jones and Patterson's supporters on Friday evening;, and took some pains to impress upon the minds of those present tbe importance of avoiding dissension, and ' pulling together truth fully, honestly and sincerely,' lest • we ' should be ' again beaten/ I should like to know how it comes that be himself is the very first to break through that golden rule by opposing the candidate for this Biding who has the approval of that meeting ? Is this the pulling together truthfully, honestly and sincerely P But if he thinks for a moment that such treachery will be endorsed here, he is only deceiving himself. His motive is as transparent as his conduct is reprehensible. For the most out and out zealot of a party some excuse may be found. His actions may be sincere even though his aims may be selfish or unworthy, but the man who would seek to aid tbe in» terest of one party by abusing the confidence of the other adds treachery to deceit, and deserves the oontempt of both sides. Mr Mirfin must rate the intelligence of the Cruahington people at a very low standard if he supposes that they are to be duped by him. His predecessor was bad enough, but spare us from a worse fate.
