DEVIL'S CREEK.
GOLDEN POINT. Since last report tlio working of tiie winze from the upper level has been con* tinued on stnne which at the commence* ment was taken to rnn in the ordinary direcfioD, but which subsequently was found to run east and west necessitat me a slight alteration in ihe winze. This stone as- far as it is broken into, namely. the present depth ot the winze (say 15 feet) is of highly payable chnracter as already stated in a former report, and is about 18in wide and looks likely to continue, 'ibis fact directed considerable attention towards the mine during the week, but the climax was reached to«day when it became known that some very rich stone bad been struck in the intermediate level. Drivine hpre had been discontinued since the last contract was 6nished, and for about two or three weeks attention was solely directed towards the uppT level where good stone had been found dnring the currency of the contract, which for the lest 20 fe-M ws9 driven through barren countrr, after havintr followed some broken s^ne from about midway in the shaft or up* rise from the fram level to the surface. It appears that durine his frequent visits to the mine, Mr Perot ti, »he legal manager, while prospecting about the ground, found favorable indications at the face of the south drive, where the contradors had left off work. He »h reupon ordered the ex'ens on of tlie drire, and found that an extraordinary rich lender came in view, and has now bpen followed for 6 feet, end alfhourh on y 6in wide, is reported to be exceedingly richi by those wl>o hive examined the stone. This n?ifuraUr Caused a stir among speculators, who for the l»»l few weeks have been on the alert nwing to the rise in the Welcomes nnd Ke^p-it Uarki which had hitherto absorbed «" attention, and a rnn took place on the stock of the Golden Points, resulting in a rise of shares from 3s to 15« in <ne | dny. It m»y be mentioned lhat the latter discovery is about 70 feet horizontal and 40 feet vertical, distance from the stone in the winze, nnd that it runs j m a true direction, namely, north and j south, and can therefore hare no con* | nection with the former find.
