THE Inangahua Times. PUBLISHED TRI-WEEKLY. MONDAY, NOV. 14, 1881,
The Government are reaping a rich harvest from the number of gold mining leases now being applied for in the lnangahua arid Lyell districts, and the occupation still goes on apace. Six new areas were applied lor on Salurday last, particular* of which will be found in our advertising columns. A painful accident happened on Saturday pvfninst lust to the youngest, son ofMrW. Williams, a ohild of three years of age. The little fellow was passing a usually quiet how, when the animal suddenly kicked out striking the ohild fair in the face. A. frightful wound was inflicted, and for some hours it was thought that the injury would prove fatal, but yesterday a lavoruble turn set in, we are glad to learn that hopes are row entertained of the child's recovery. In order to meet the convenience of the public Mr Sampson, postmoster. has altered the hour of closing the outward Westport mail to 7 o'clock on the mornings of departure, instead of 10 o'clock over-night as hitherto. The new arrangement will prove a great boon to business men. Agreeably to this change Mr Job Lines has altered the hour of departure of the Westport coach to half-past 7 o'clock, instead of 6 30 bb before, an alteration which the travelling public will no doubt equally appreciate. The amount of business transacted by the Reefton telegraph oifice during the past three weeks is greater than was e»er known since the opening of the office here, and the resources of the staff are taxed to the utmost in order to keep pace with the work, and it speaks well for the efficiency of the officers that the Btrain is met with the utmost accuracy and despatch. Broadway presented a very bustling appearance on Saturday evening, the street beinjfc crowded Kith people, all seemingly engaged upon the same mission of either buying of selling scrip. In the absence, however, of any " speciality in the market the amount of bnsinesß done did not appear to be great. The brokers were, however, busy enough, and up to the time the wires closed transactions were very brisk, It is announced that Mr P. Brenntm will address the ratepayers in Dawson's Hall this evening, at 8 o'clock. The Lyon's tourists and Pleasure Party who have been playing with great success in Greymouth, will appear in Reefton on Thursday evening next. Mr W: Hindraarsh, an old resident of Greymouth, has taken offices in Broadway, opposite Messrs Dowsing and Lines', and commenced the business of sharebroker and commission agent; we wish Mr Hindmarsh every success.
