PUBLIC MEETING AT CAPLESTON.
A public meeting was held at Mr Walker's Hall. Caplestnn, advocating the erection of a teleeraph station at Capleston— lso being prwnt. The Chairman, Mr W. B. Archer, spoke at length showing the disadvantages under which Capleston stood for want of a telegraph office, and pointed out ifa advantages to the people of Cap* les'on. Mr T. Gallagher also spolce and pointed nut the disadvantages of being without n tplpgraphs nfficp, and its advantages not only in mining matters, bnt also in case of Bcndenfs to miners, the life of many of whom mnv be saved by a telegraph offipp at C»ples'on. Moved hv Mr Ferris, seconded by Mr Francis Walker, that in the opinion of this meeting it is extremely necessary that a telesraoli office be erected at Cap lest on. Carried. Moved by Mr T. Gallagher, seconded by Mr fiodgers, and carried, that thp memorial just re r d to the meeting be forwarded to tbe Commissioner of Telegraph, and also that a telegram le forwarded to each of our late members Messrs Weston and "Reeves, expla'nine the aim and result of tbe meeting. Moved by Mr Francis Walker, seconded by Mr John Gallagher, that Mr Edward Merrift, be askpd to obtain tie Wgnatnres of tbe rnsidents to the memorial before forwarding it to the Commissioner. Carried. The following gentlemen eipressed their willingness to give the Government a guarantee for any deGcieney that might be in connection with tbe telegraph office : —W. B.
