Counsel applied for bail saying that several substantial securities oould be obtained. The Magistrate, though averse to granting it, consented to reserve his final decision on point till Monday. Kum aba, November 26. Edwin Blake is third candidate for the Kumara Electoral District. Gisbohnb. November 25. M'Kay, editor of tbe Herald, was publicly horsewhipped on the Gladstone road by Mr John Gannon, brother of Mr M. J. Gannon, for West Coast, for publishing a letter containing an alleged libellous reflection on his family connection. Gannon was charged with assault this morning, and the case was dismissed by the Bencb without remark, Axjcklind, November 25, Captain Morris, master of the illnfated barque Glimpse, wa9 a passenger by the Hero. Timabtj, November 25. There is little doubt now tbat some vessel has been wrecked south of Timaru. A constable was sent out this morning, and he found the beach from six to fifteen I miles south of Timaru, strewn witb 'wreckage. A part of the bulwark, «*»
painted pea green was picked up. The vessel is supposed to be one of some 50 or 60 tons. The wood was freshly painted.
