We elsewhere publish an address from, Mr Weston to the electors of Inangahua and Grey Valley, and a meeting of that gentleman* supporters will be held in the Oddfellow's Hall this evening, for the purpose of preparing for the approaching campaign. We hear that Mr Westoo'a eupporten throughout the Grey Valley are working moit energetically, and there as here the fullest confidence is felt tbat Mr Weston will be returned with a large majority. Fife new mining leases are advertised tbi» morning. A meeting of shareheldera in the Happy Valley Qold Mining Lease, Merrljigs, will be held at Mr GL C. Bowman's this evening, at 8 o'clock. Mr Hodgson, school inspector for the Provincial District of Nelson, concluded the annual examination of scholar? at the Beefton State School on Saturday last, and the result spaak in the highest +erm» for the ejßoiency of the teaching staff, the whole of tbe scholars having passed in the first fpur standards with ao average of 89 per cent of marki, and it is more than probable that Mr Ohattock, the head master, will be able to. •end one youthful candidate at least this year for the annual scholarship competition in Nelson* Mr R. Beeves reached Reefton on Satur* day last, and addressed the electors of Boatman's in the evening, The remains of Richard Lecher were con* veyed to their last resting place yesterday -fternoon. The deceased was widely known, and respected throughout the. district, and taking into account his youth, and the unusually cad ciroumstanea.of his death the occasion oreated a feeling of profound sor« row. The Black's Point Band, of which deceaied had long been a member, paid the last tribute of respect to their fallen comrade by heading the procession, and playing tbe " Dead March in Saul," and as the funeral •lowly marched through the town there was but One general feeling of sympathy and orrow pervading the whole community. A dividend of sixpence per share, has been declared by tbe United Alpine Company, Lyell. The Panama Star and Herald says: — Details have been received of a terrific powder explosion at Mezatlan, Mexico. The explosion occurred in the Government magazine, in which several tons of powder were stored, and was caused by one of tbe guards detailed at tbe place smoking a cigar within the magazine: The building was situate in the centre of business portion of the town. The explosion completely razed the magazine and destroyed many houses in its immediate vicinity, besides doing considerable damage to a number of others and killing a large number of people, linmedi. ately after the explosion tbe soldiers and citizens went to work to recover the bodies of those known to have been buried in tbe ruins. Many bodies haye been recovered, among them that of Francisco Keno, tho district judge. The number of killed and wounded is not yet known, as many bodies are said to be still buried under the ruins ' A later message says ; — ' The official report on tbe powder report on the powder magazine disaster at Muzatlan states thbt twenty per* sons were killed by the explosion and thirty injured. Twelve perspns are missing.'
