Mft "Reeves hag fierer attempted, to explain away his scandalous desertion of those in charge of the Railway Bill at the most critical sta#fl of its passage last session; Mr Weston had pushed the Bill to -its last stage ija the face of ex* troardinary opposition. Pressure was ejrerted from all sides of the House to induce him to withdraw tha measure, bnt seeing that to do so would be to lose all the ground gained, he refused to do so relying that Mr Beeves 7ote would en able him to carry the Bill through. And what was Mr Beeves conduct on that occasion ? In order to prevent Mr Weston from obtaining the credit of passing the measure be bolted away to Nelson a few hours before the division on the third reading came on. Mr Weaton, however, proved equal to the emergency and got the Bill through notwithstand ing, much to Mr Keeves disgust, no doubt. The electors will not forget this circumstance to-day.
