MISCELLANEOUS.
♦ Orago is not New Zealand, and the Government have secured so strong a following ia the North that no combination afc all likely to be formed agaiust them in Otago will succeed. Canterbury, Wellington, and Taranaki are strongly in their favor, Auckland is about equally divided; and Nelson, Westland, and Marlborough together can only muster a majority of three against them. A careful examination of the wliole list leads us to the conclusion Ibafc the, present Administration can count on about 40 votes with certainly, while thp Opposition can rely only on about; 34 Our "Wellington correspondent giv*s the numbers as 45 and 34 respectively, but probably counts on some of these- we have men. tioned^as doubtful. Of the doubtful vote?, the Maori members excepted, the strong proba-bfUtfes are in favor of the Government securing considerably more than half, as all the Independent I membprs are opposed to Sir George Grey, and failing aav other strong leader on th* Opposition side, are almost certain to maintain the status quo. Thp dtf^at of Mr Orraond puts all possibility of a formidable leader of Middle party out of the field, and, having regard to the general character of the representatives on tbe Op" position side, we fail to see ho*: n Ministry cotild be formed with the slightest hope of maintaining them* selves ra power without Fir George Grey— and Sir George declaries, as Mr JVC Brown tells, us, that he will never take office again. Mr Orm.ond. Mr Ballance, Mr Header \Vood are all among tbe slain. — Otogo Times. Prince Alexander of Bulgaria, comply* ing with the wish of the Emperor of Russia, will marry the heiress Mdlle. Jessupoff, who has a dower of 80,000 roubles. j
