HON. SsOBKTtBY: Wm. Hugh Jones, Solicitor, ReefUra, OBJECT OF THE COMPANY. The object of the company is infro« duction of tbe Diamond Drill ,an nrimitted factor to successful progress in mining, to prospect} and more speedily develop "tho valuable quarts reefs on tbe West Coa«t of the Middle Island, the initiation of the movement primarily centering and opera ing m the well-known district of Inangabua, a locality famous for its rich quarts lodes. The benefit that would accrue to all classes , connected with these goidfields, directly,- as well as indirectly, cannot possibly be better illustrated than by reference to the following statement made in tbe Victorian House of Assembly, in tbe month of August last, by a member in support of & motion that £10,000 be placed nn the Pstiuiates for 1882, to purchase diamond drills, &c. :— " Tbe value of tbe work performed by one diamond drill at Stawell is best understood by the enhanced value of mining properties, which its discoveries have effected. Calculations in this direction have been made with some care, and are to hand, viz — Crown Cross United Company, 19044 shares, former price 1* 21 each : present value 10s. South Cross United Company, 30,240 shares, former buyers. Is 2d ; present buyers, ss. Nos. 14, 15, and 16 South Cross, 14,400 scrip ; former bujers 4s lOd ; present buyers 14s 6d. Nos. 1 and 2 North Seotchmans, (formerly unsaleable) 8960 shares ; present buyers 10s. The value of the Extended h>v> been increased by £22,000; Scotchman? United, £25 300, as likewise the Pleasant Creek Cross Ree ( Company, and the Oriental. The grand total value of these stocks before the discovery of the gold-bearing reef in the Crown Uroes United Company's shaft by the aid of the diamond drill was about £41,1(51 • now tbe total of their value is £148.400 ; the one diamond drill incrensing the value of mining property in this instance £107,216: But this increat-e has only begun to grow, end it is therefore difficult to put whnt one or two morn discoveries will effert." With such facts ard figjres before them there should be no doubt in the minds of those whose interests »ro wrapped ti)) and intimately linked with the suertes or tuiln.o of the quartz reefing industry a-> to fht> ncctisity of promoting the lurthoranre <.\ th« present undertnking, which under efficient and careful management cannot fail to give important aid to the development of the ren sources ol the district, and will in add it is act us a chei.-k upon the hitherto waste'ul expenditure of large sums ol money in the construction of p'ospecting tunnels and shaft*. As n turthor incrtitive to ihi» pi-omnffon of this company, it iimy be mi«mifin«>d that the drills supplied b_v the Vi.-toriiin Government provins miiiiequ'ite to tho lrq^m-men 1 * ol its goldfK'lds, n fompsit'v h»s been 'orm.'<l in Brilliant, with n enpua! ol ,t,"oi)OOf>.
