It has transpired that the French and English Consuls-General to the Egyptian Court have sent an identical note to the Khedive intimating that England France have resolved to maintain His Majesty's authority against rebellion, or other disorder which may occur within his realm. Loxdon, January 9. It is anderstood that the AngloFrench identical note to the Khedive chiefly aims at preventing further interference on the part of Turkey in Egyptian affairs. ihe Daily News to-day publishes a statement to tlve effect that the English Cabinet have refused to recognise claim of the United States to the political control of the Panama Canal, on the ground that the demand is at variance with international law, and the Cla\ ton-Bulwer treaty. A bazaar was being held in the chapel, and in order to provide extra accommodation temporary flooring had been constructed above the ground floor. The bazaar was crowded with visitors' to the number of 300, when the floor suddenly collapsed, precipitating those who were above the ground floor, and bringing them down on to those under who were underneath. A fearful scene followed, and the air was filled with the screams of the wounded and dying. Neighbors assembled- at the spot to renderfajl possible assistance, but it was some I;ime before the survivors could be extricated from the ruins and the dead bodies could be collected together. The United States Congress has now under consideration the question of the control of the Panama Canal, which was claimed by Blame (late Secretary of State), as belonging solely to United States. Tho suject is exciting a good deal of interest. Melbourne, January 9. There are now six cases of smallpox amongst the Garonne's passengers. One case has reached what is known as the semi-confluent stage, and is regarded as serious, and likely to end fatally. The Orient takes Home 2,000 carcasses of sheep, and 2,400 cases of preserved meat. The Carthage has also a quantity of preserved meat aboard for the Home market
