THE Inangahua Times. PUBLISHED TRI-WEEKLY-MONDAY, JANUARY 16, 1882.

We publish to-day the memorials of re- ' gistration of the Imperial Company, Boatman's, and the Energetic Extended Company, Murray Creek. Mr G. Wise, Reefton, is the manager of the Imperial Com, pany, and Mr (1 W. Moss, Greymouth, of the Energetic Extended Company. The banquet to the Hon. the Minister of Mines, on Friday evening last, passed off most enthusiastically. We have, however, been compelled to curtail our report of the proceedings somewhat owing to other demand upon our columns. The Ministerial party left for Ahaura at noon on Saturday, and will reach Greymouth this afternoon. Mr James Stevenson, auctioneer held an extensive and important sale of mining shares on Saturday last, the attendance being large, and the bidding remarkably brisk. Amongst the lines offered were 1750 forfeited shares in the Morning Star Cpmpuny, which were put up by order of tSe directors. The shares were- eagerly bought up at from 3s. 2d. to 3s. 4d. Mr Stevenson, instructed by Mr G. C. Bowman, also submitted the property known i as Green's Farm, and after sharp competition the lot was knocked down to Mr H. G. Hankin, for £205. Mr Stevenson is to be congratulated upon his successful debut, for he wielded the hammer with the proficiency of a veteran. The shareniarket has even more than recovered its activity, and business in mining stocks was probably never more brisk than it is at the present t/me. The town was fairly taken by storm on Saturday last through the striking of some very rich stone in the Imperial mine, Boatman's, and the reef being reported to be strong in character, and 4ft thick. Shares rose almost at a single bound from 3s to 10s., and last night 13s. was demanded. The Just-in-Time being next door to the Imperial, has also felt the impulse, shares in that mine having nearly doubled in price during the last three days, and this ' threat accession of Avealth to shareholders ; has « r a ed (he machinery of speculation ( to a wonderful extent, and almost, every i man one parses in the. street is a bloated ! capitalist. Morning Stars are also en- ! gaging attention, sales on Saturday night closing at 3s !)d. A special meeting of the members of the Reefton Jockey Club will take placo this j evening, to rVal with business of impor--1 inn »'. D. Twokill and ,T. Calkhan, tlio latter conceding one inch to his opponent. Twohill failed at 4ft. Gin., and the bar being raised another inch, it was cleared by Callahan, who thus proved the victor. The sittings of the local Courts have been further adjourned until Thursday , next. These adjournments have been rendered necessary owing to the visit of Mr Rolleston, iV r Revell having been engaged in other necessary duties in connection with the M mister's presence. A teacher in Canterbury has resignep because he had "no confidence in the Board of Inspectors." During three holidays recently the Roslyn Tramway, Dunedin, carried nearly GOOO passengers. Artesian wells in various parts of Christchurch have stopped flowing, owing, it is supposed, to the recent earthquakes.
