(from our own correspondent.) Cairo, January 12. In consequence of bad impression which has been created at the Egyptian Court by the construction placed upon recent action of English and French Consuls-General in sending their joint note to Khedive, G. B. Malet, C.8.. British Representative at Cairo, has had an audience with his Highness, in the course of which he took occasion to reassure him that the British Government has no intention of departing from line of policy it has hitherto followed, or to interfere in future in Egyptian affairs beyond taking such 'steps as might be necessary in event of an outbreak of rebellion to assure the permanence of status quo, and maintenance of authority of his Highness. Mr Mallet further explained that the course which had been adopted by himself and French Representative, in issuing their joint note was simply intended to reaffirm alliance which has hitherto existed between England and France in- their diplomatic relations and' to indicate tdj Ijjs| *Highness; the with which the two countries were prepared to act in order to secure prosperity of Egypt. The Reichstag to-day by a majority of two-thirds of the whole House, passed a resloution moved by Herr Windthorpe, granting permission to clerical bodies to exercise their functions in Germany without sanction of the Government Paris, January 12Intelligence is to hand from Algeria that three French priests attached to the mission station at Arapgli have been murdered by Arabs at Zadames on the border between Algeria and Tripoli. The carpenter of the ship Oasis has been committed for trial on a charge of attempting to set fire to the vessel on the sth instant. January 13. The New Zealand passengers per Garonne, who are quarantined here, have applied for leave to proceed by steamer leaving for Bluff on the 1 6th instant. The Government has, however, refused permission. All the Garonne's small-pox patients, with one exception, are progressing very favorably towards recovery.
