Professor Hugo, who has just completed an edifying and entertaining course of lectures in Greymouth upon the subject of physiognomy, will commence a similar series of lectures in the Oddfellows' Hall . to-morrow night. Professor Hugo has the reputation of possessing extensive scientific attainment, and his lectures will no doubt prove very in teresting. His Honor Judge Broad, with Mr W. Perkins, Crown Prosecutor, arrived from Westport last evening. The District Court will open to-morrow morning. Some amusement was created in' Court at Wellington on the case of alleged personation being called on, the accused, the Hon, C. J. Pharazyn solemnly marching into the criminal's dock without being asked, to occupy that somewhat undignified stand-point. Mr Gordon Allan, who appeared for the prosecution, at once said that there was no possible objection to Mr Pharazyn occupying the floor of the Court, but the latter insisted on main' taining his position, and even after the information had been read, and he was requested to take a seat in the body of the Court, he was deaf to all such blandishments, and played the part of bona fide prisoner till the proceedings came to a h conclusion. Why thelfei. member persisted in the occupation so undesirable a location is hard to say, unless he deemed it a preliminary portion of the punishment which, in his own statement, he declared he was so desirous of inflicting up on himself. •■■ _ w— —————— ——_ ——__■—
