Napler, Januarp 22. Young woman named Hall committed suicide yesterday by jumping from the bridge into the Tutaekuri river. Verdict — temporary insanity. Another woman named Kirkpatrick, wife of a well-to-do Bettler, severed her wind-pipe and now lies in a critical condition. Christchurch. Young woman named Bars, 19, attempted suicide by jumping into the i river, but she was rescued. Christchurch, January 24. The cricket match was commenced today. In the first innings, the Englishmen scored 230. Barlow scored 77, and Ulyett 59,, being chief scorers — the former remaining five hours at the wipkots. &i 1.30 to-day the Canterbury men had lost four wickets for 27. The team leave for Wellington to-night, and great regret is expressed at the match not being played out. Wellington. The first class yacht race for £50, and the New Zealand Company's Cup, £20, was won by Batkin's Theis, beating Zariffa, winner of the Lyttelton yacht race.
