INKERMAN.
The shaft is now down ID feet below No. 2 level, and is penetrating some very good stone apparently of higher quality than formerly met with. It is intended to continue sinking probably to a depth ' with the number three or low level, which is being done by contract, and which is now in 50 feet. The present contract is for 300 ft and the driving seems good. This I level will have to be taken in altogether about 850 feet to meet the reef 80 feet below the perpendicular of the present bottom of shaft or winze. Stone, however, might be met with at any time before the distance is reached, as driving is being made through quartz country. A cutting has been made into the coal seam which now shows 4ft. 6in. of good quality. Arrangements are in course of progress for obtaining suitable plant for crushing the immense quantities of stone in the mine, and preparations are being made for machine -site and other preiminaries.
