UNITED ALPINE.
Stoping between the intermediate and No. 5. levels, the reef being still of a very large size, viz., 30 feet in thickness. It lies very flat, tfith a considerable pitch to the north. In the southern stopes the reef is about 6 feet thick, and gold can be seen with the naked eye. The manager has six men rising from the extreme north of No. 5 level to connect with the intermediate level, in order to give better facility for breaking down the reef. The directors have decided to let the north blocks on contract, and tenders are called for the same, closing on the 4th proximo. At No^ 6 level progress is slow, owing to : the excessively hard nature nature of the ground,
