In the estimate of the Department of Mines of New South Wales for the ensuring year there appears the following items to promote prospecting : — For the purchase of diamond and ■ other drills for the purpose of delevop- ; ing the mineral and other rescoucts ' of the colony, £20,000 ; reward for the > discovery of gold in payable quantities in quartz veins between certain depths, £1000 ; reward for the dig covery of new goldfields, £300. These items were passed by the Legislative Assembly, as was also item £100 for the establishment of a School of Mines.
