(FKOM OUR OhX- CORRESPONDENTS.) CHSIfPttauRCH, February 8. Emmett, the man caught assaulting a little girl yesterday, has been committed for trial. He attempted no defence, Hamilton, bandmaster, has composed a march for the Exhibition, which has been accepted. Dr. Wilkins has succeeded in grafting the front portion of a rabbit upon another animal's eye, and getting it to grow there without serious inconvenience to either. The doctor hopes that the time will come when the operation can be extended to the human eyes. At a meeting of the proposed provisional directors of the West Coast Railway Company, it was decided to write to Sir Julius Yogel, and forward him copies of all documents with a list of the names proposed on the provisional directory, and ask him to cable on receipt to what extent, in his , opinion, he could influence the subscription of British capital in the event of the Colony subscribing, say 20,000 shares in the proposed company, and further, to write to General Fielding in Victoria, pointing out that it is competent for a syndicate to undertake the construction, and that if he considers the matter important enough to pay New Zealand a visit, one of the promoters would accompany him over the proposed roUte.
