OBJECT OF THE COMPANY. The object of the company is introduction of the Diamond Drill ,an admitted factor to snceessful progress in mining, to prospect, atd more speedily develop the valuable qnartz reefe on the West Coast of the Middle Island, the initiation of the movement primarily centering and opera ing in tbe well-known district of Inangahua, a locality famous for its rich quartz lodes. Tbe benefit tbat wonld accrue to all classes connected with these goldfields, directly, as well as indirectly, cannot possibly be better illustrated than by reference to the following statement nude in tbe Victorian House of Assembly, in the month of Augnst last, hy a member iv support of a motion that £10.000 be placed nn the Fstiuiates tor 1882, to pur* chase diamond drills, &c. : — " Tbe value of the work performed by one diamond drill at Stawell is best understood by. the enhanced value of mining propertiea which its discoveries bave effected. Calculations in this direction have been made with some care, and are to hand, viz —Crown Cross United Company, 19044 sbares, former price ls 21 each : present value 10s. South Cross United Company, 30,240 shares, former buyers, ls 2d ; present buyers, ss. Nos. 14, 15, and 16 South Cross, 14,400 scrip; former buy ers 4s lOd ; present buyers 14s 6d. Nos. 1 and 2 North Scotchmans, (formerly unsaleable) 8960 shares ; present buyers 10s. The value of the Extended has been increased by £22,000; Scotchmans United, £25 300, a-t likewise the Pleasant Creek Cross Reef Company, and the Oriental. Tbe grand total value of these stocks before the discovery oi the gold-bearing reef id the Crown Cross United Company a shaft by the aid of the diamond drill was about i.'ii,lf>t; now the total of their value is £143,400 ; the one diamond drill increasing the value *>f mining property in tbis instance £107,246. But this increase has only begun to grow, and it is therefore difficult to say what one or two more discoveries will effect." With such facts ard figures before tbem there should be no donbe in the minds of tnose whose interests are wrapped up ami intimately linked with the eucre ss or /mlure of tho quartz reefiug industry a-- to the ne-C-itnty of promoting tho furtherance of thn present undertaking, wbit-h under efficient and carelul u.anug--iuent cannot tail to give important u'd to the develop tent of the ret sourres ol the district, and will iv aiid it is act as a check upou th** hitherto waste'iil expenditure of large sun,* of money iv Mi* const* uctiou of prospecting tunuels and shafts. As a Jurther incentive to Ihe promotion of this company, it moy he mentioned th tt tli** drills supplied by the Victoritn Government proving inadequate to the requirements ol its f-oldfield?, a company lias been formed iv Bullamt. with a capital .ot £50,000, tor the purchase of diamond drills, and another company for the sac > c purpose has been projected ut Sandhurst, with a capital ot £25,000.
