BOATMAN'S.

[From oub Mining Reporter.] WELCOME. • ' ... SaHjiiday, February 25. A very important discovery was made during the early part of the week in this mine, which will have a tendency not only to further enhance the value of this property, but will also add increased importance to the whole line of reef, and particularly bo to the claims lying north of the Welcome*^M^j^^^ikm being cut out at the the No. 6 level north, preparatory to sinking for the dip of the lode which appeared to have been run out on this level, when the workmen unexpectedly bared a solid body of quartz above the drive. This on being examined proved" to'W-of excellent quality, equal to any in the mine, and of about 4 feet in thickness as far as could be ascertained and judging from the appearances of regularity, is no isolated block but a well-defined true lode, which I in all probability will be traced for a considerable distance .'through the upper levels. This, of course, can only be a merj supposition at present only warranted by existing indications which are strongly in favour of the surmise, and which, it is confidently hoped will in a short time prove to be correct. The usual quantity of stone, 90 tons, has been treated at the mill during the week, and the result is 9510z5. of amalgam, including 48ozs. from percussion tables, which are proving a valuable adjunct to the gold-saving apparatus of the company.
