THE WEEK.

[From our Mining* Reporter.] Saturday, March 4. The mining record for the past week furnishes little for comment, but upon the whole the reports received from the different mines are eminently satisfactory, and the very large amount of work now being carried on throughout the field cannot fail to bear early fruit. The arrival of the diamond drill and machinery for the Golden Fleece Extended Company is now anxiously looked for, and by latest accounts should be well on its way to Greymouth. Next in importance as bearing upon the immediate future of the field is the erection of crushing plant for the Lankey's Creek Cement Company, and also for the Golden Point Company. The plants for each company have been purchased, and it will be something of a race which is placed in working order first. The revival of the Rainy Creek Company is also another matter of moment, and the addition of this large crushing power, cannot fail to give a healthy stimulus to the mining industry generally. The following are the returns for the past week : — Welcome —997ozs. of amalgam, including 71ozs. from the percussion tables, from 90 tons of stone. Golden TREAstrßE—234ozs. ldwt. mcl ted gold, from 166 tons of stone, for the month. United Alpine (Lyell) — 106ozs. of amalgam, from 130 tons of stone (top plates.) Total for nine and ahalf days crushing, 1540z5. retorted gold.
