[FgoM our Mining Repobteb.]

Saturday, March 11.

The termination of the difficulty which has so long hampered the Eureka Company is not the least important incident of the past week. Fenced in on all sides by occupied ground, the company had but one course open in order to work the mine, and that was by sinking, which would have been both a costly and longwinded undertaking. The solution, however, which has been happily found will enable the company to get into their ground at such a level as will secure an enormous height of backs, aud this at a cost of time and money quite inconsiderable compared with that involved in the former undertaking. The pom-

pany no doubt fully appreciate the ad- 1 vantage which they have gained by the concession of the Fiery Cross Company, and will not be slow to profit by it It is of the very first importance to the field that work should be pressed on to cut the reef northwards of the Welcome, and stimulated by the magnificent yields now being obtained by the latter company, both the Eureka and Homeward Bound will no doubt hurry on their works with all the speed possible. „ _ . Delegates from the Imperial, JustinTime, and South Hopeful Companies will meet on Monday next to consider a proposal for jointly sinking a main shaft This is a step in the right direction, and if the same principle had been adopted in the earlier days much wasteful expenditure might bave been avoided.

The Mowing are the battery returns for the past week :—
