UNITED ALPINE.
Thursday, March 16. There is nothing new to report from this mine. Hands are employed breaking down stone from the south stopes under No. 4 level, and also from the north block over No. 5 level. In consequence of the long spell of dry weather the water has run short for the water blast, and work in the rise had to be discontinued for want of air. The whole of the ground which had shown signs of settling has been picked upland filled in, so that the mine is now perfectly safe.
