It will be known that the late Earl of Beaconsfield possessed the power of repartee in a remarkable degree and it is said that he carried it with him to the grave. Upon reaching the gate of heaven and knocking for admission he was answered by Peter, who asked who it was knocking. The reply was Benjamin Disraeli, Earl of Beaconsfield. Peter at once replied he could not think of admitting him :he had told too many lies while upon earth. All intoxicating drinks were excluded from a recent dinner provided by the Duke of Argyll at Inverary Castle for his workmen, where the Ladies Alary and Evelyn Campbell and the Marquis of Lome were present The heir to the Bonanapartist hope, Prince Victor Napoleon, has lately taken his degree as Bachelor of Sciences, being one of eight successful candidates out of forty-eight examined. In May, 1880, John Shaw shot and killed his brother, Pei rin Shaw.
