SPECIMEN HELL.
The exploring works in this extensive property being sufficiently advanced to guarantee the erection of crushing plant, the directors made an early visit to the mine on Wednesday, for the purpose of deciding on the nature and position of the several paddocks and tramways contemplated to connect with the proposed battery — the importance attaching to their judgment in these matters can hardly be over-estimated, looking at the past history of several of the Reefton mines, and the enormous loss and present inconvenience winch have attended engineering mistakes. Batteries too high or too low make all the difference in the future to some mines, and on the judicious position of machinery and surface works involving heavy outlay, frequently depends the very life of a promising mining venture in years to come.
