■ — w A good story is told of a couple of | farmers who lived a few miles apart* One day one called on the other, happening to call at dinner time. The peri son called upon, by the way, was seated at the table enjoying his dinner. The visitor drew up to the stove, looking S very wistfully towards the table, expecting the old farmer to invite him to dine. The old man kept on eating- " What's the news over your way, neighbour]" (still eating.) "iNonewa, eh?" "No I believe not" Presently a thought struck the visitor. " Well, ; yes, friend, I did hear of one item of news worth mentioning." "Ah! what is that T " Neighbour John has a cow that has five calves." "Is that so? Goodness gracious t | What in thunder does the fifth calf do when the other is sucking V " Stands and looks on just as I do, like a fooL" " Mary, put another plate.'
