The Wanganui Herald positively denies that Ballance is going to offer himself as a candidate for Stanmore, All the leading papera of the Colony teem with abuse the of Governor's action in sending for Grey, and the result of their meeting, which may probably take place to-morrow, is looked forward to with the greatest interest. Mrs Power did not appear owing to ill-health* tod the case against the other defendants 1 was dismissed. Miss Power's share in the alleged assault consisted of "looking oh approvingly," and called the plaintiff a shame-faced creature, while it appears Mm Power merely pushed the woman outside, she having no business in the house. Ohsistohttboh, April 14. To-night's Star says :— " We hear that a cable message has been received by a prominent politician in this Island, informing Him that Yogel is preparing for an early vifrit to New Zealand. The reason assigned is that Sir Julius thinks the present political situation favorable for carrying out, sometime, the favourite idea of his re-entering die arena of Colonial polities." The promoters of the West Coast Railway scheme have received information by cable from Yogel, to the effect that prospects of the application to the London market for floating shares are favourable. AtrcKLAifD, April 15. The Star states authoritatively that there is no truth in the statement that Sir Geo' Grey had communicated with gentlemen at Ghristchurch, that his Excellency had asked him to form a Government, and that he was prepared to submit names on his arrival in Wellington. Sir Geo. Grey did not send any telegram to Christchurch, nor any, to purport stated, to any part of the Colony. A picture by a local artist intended to be exhibited at the Society of Arts Exhibition, has been stolen, and cannot be found.
