THE Inangahua Times, PUBLISHED TRI-WEEKLY. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 26, 1882.
As has already been announced Mf Weston, M.H.R. for this district, purposes visiting the district on the 4th of next month, and he will stay a few days, in addition to addressing the electors publicly, in order to interview any of his constituents who desire to see him before Parliament meets. In addition to speaking at Reefton on the above date he'wiU confer with his constituents &t Orwell and Nelson Creeks, if requested to do so. If, therefore, there is any desire on the part of the residents in these places for him to pay them a visit, they had better communicate with him at Christchurch at once. It will be as well for all to utilise his trip as much as possill;, aid make him fully acquainted with any Inangahua requirements that he not posted up in, so that he may be able to explain them in his place in the House. He also expresses himself ready to meet the residents of Greymouth, so that he and the member, for that constituency may, as far as possible, act in unison on all matters affecting the welfare of the Grey Valley. This is decidedly a step in the right direction, for in times past, through one cause or other, the unanimity that has been desirable, has not, by any means, been maintained by g>embers for the Grey Valley, before ■fhat electorate was divided. Mr Weston evidently is anxious to; do all in his power to faithfully and zealously serve the district 1 that he '.represents and we feel assured thts, hi? re turn wifl fee 'attended &tik the best tfesuite; ■ Already he h«u4<&& muoh, &£<s in. the coming sessiott, will be able Ik>'a<>fai more. There is one point that we sincerely trust the County Council will not neglect, and that is to have a schedule of the public works most needed in the County, 'together with an estimate of their cost, ready for him before he leaves for Wellington. There is no doubt whatever that the five million loan will be agreed toby the House, no matter what, Mjitfstry m«f dbtain or retain power, and it is equally certain in that case that this part of the colony is entitled to at least a slice from that huge loaf. It is hardly likely, as we cannot hope for any railway money out of it, that the House will allocate a certain share for public works in lieu of railways, if the subject be properly brought forward, and Mr Weston is eminently capable of fulfilling the latter condition. The County Council is in a position to afford the fullest information on public works that are necessary, and should arm Mr Weston thoroughly with full details, so that he may be able to show that the money asked will be well and profitably expended.
