THE Inangahua Times, PUBLISHED TRI-WEEKLY. MONDAY, MAY 1, 1882.

We are told thdsf All's well that ends wbU,'' flnd, theVd^&t ||iro jnay congratulate the Exhibj^ft^Comnlittee on :^ie they werß only actuated by a sincere desire to dd'^pdA to tile district in the action they had taken. They accepted the position that the CouhciP had placed them in, and will now work with the Council with, it is to be hoped, the best results. In fairness, we must say that this result-has been largely brought about by the tone that the Chairman took when intern|#exl by members of the committee, ■mdt is most satisfactory to find that HSHkt of conciliation was shown on ■Xir sides, when a matter so. all-im-iportenTtorthe residents in the district, |$flalToh the carpet. As far as we now understand the County Council, notwithstanding their hostile front, on Wednesday last, will really assist the committee on the sole stipulations that duplications of exhibits shall not be sent, and that anything obtained by the Committee shall be forwarded through the Council. There never was any wish on, the part of the committee to supersede the Council in the matter but, as we have repeatedly urged, that body did not take the interest in the district'srepresentationthatwasthought necessary, and hence the movement that has been made. It will have borne good fruit, however if the exhibits are supplemented, as we have no doubt they will be without delay. The Council, through its chief, has held out the olive branch, and the committee promptly accepted it. F>ow that there maybe said to be harmony existing between the two bodies it will be well to make the most of it, and let united action be the means of showing Cfafeistchurch visitors what Inangahua can produce. As has been stated on former occasion the exhibits hitherto &nt, with some exceptions, are altogether unworthy of the district, and only very partially show its great and valuable resources. As far as timber goes nothing has yet been sent, though a time will come when this product will prove most valuable, and valued by persons at a distance. The Council are repairing this omission, we believe, but the committee should hot on that account relax their exertions m getting the samples that have been spoken of. As we have already said there is an evident desire for conciliation, and we trust that it will be most fully carried out Every individual in the community must be benefitted by the Inangahua products being brought prominently forward at our little World's Fair, and it is in the highest degree desirable that united action should be taken to that end. On this ground then we consider that the course the committee has taken is in the highest degree commendable, for the members have clearly shown that they are influenced by public spirit only, that they are not self-seeking, and that in order to secure the cooperation of the County Council they are content to take a lower position then their well meant exertions fairly entitled them to. New, however, all seems plain sailing; the Council has been spurred into some kind of energy, the committee will still be an active auxiliary, and, no doubt, before a week or so is over a really creditable supplement to the exhibits already sent will be ready for forwarding to Christchurch. As already said, "All's well that ends well." y>
