EXHIBITION COMMITTEE.

+ -4 An adjourned meeting of the above committee was held at Kater's Hall, on Friday evening last. Mr George Wise was called to the chair, and after opening tho proceedings called upon Mr H. G. Hankin, the hon. sec, to report what action had been taken since the last meeting. Mr Hankin read a copy of letter for- ! warded by him to the County Council, asking for a subsidy to assist the committee in carrying out the object in view. He (Mr Hankin) had not received any formal repiy from the Council on the subject, but learnt from the Inangahua Times report of that morning that the Council had refused entirely to entertain the application.

A member of the committee who was present at the Council meeting reported what had taken place. Mr Collings said that the proper course | for the County Chairman to have taken I in the first instance was to call a public | meeting to consider, how the object might be best carried out, and to invite the public to co-operate, but aa that had not been done, it appeared to him that the only thing now remaining was to make the best of the position, and accept the terms of the Council. He, therefore, moved, " That in order that the district may not suffer or fail in representation at the Exhibition by the conflict that had arisen between the committee and the Council, the committee accept the terms offered by the Council." Mr Faler, in seconding the motion, thought that the Council had treated the secretary of the committee with a want of courtesy In not replying to the letter. The motion was then put and carried. Mr Collings reported that at his suggestion the County Chairman undertook that the County map should be filled in so as to show the whole of the mineral and agricultural leases under occupation in the Inangahua. Mr Collings thought that it would be Myn»b& to send a sample of coke fron| local!!!!, and suggested that Mr Kilgoiir should be asked to prepare the specimen. Mr Hankin stated that Mr H. Graham had sent down for Rainy Creek two blocks of coal of 1 cwt. each. Mr Collings reported that Mr J. Trennery had promised to send down both coal and quartz specimens from the Golden Fleece Extended. It was also stated that some specimens had been sent down by the Keep-it-Dark mine. Mr Kater reported that he had received specimens of gold an antimony stone from the Result mine. Mr Collings moved, that the hon. sec. MrH. G. Hankin, confer with the County Chairman, and acquaint him of tlie service required in order to collect the exhibits suggested by the committee. The motton was seconded by Mr Joice, and carried. Tlie meeting then adjourned.
