EXTRAORDINARY ADVENTURE OF A BURGLAR.

» A man named Aaron Prince was recently indicted at Leeks for burglary. Mr Kershaw, who prosecuted, said that early on the morning of 24th December, a neighbor of the prosecutor, William James Whittle, a butcher, of Loft-house-in-Carlton, was awakened by hearing suffocating cries proceeding apparantly from the chimney. The prosecutor was called up, and he and the neighbor proceeded to the shop, in the chimney of which a great noise was heard Soot was falling in clouds, and a vigorous effect was being made by some one to wriggle out of the chimney. They called out, and the prisoner replied, "Oh, pull me out." Prosecutor replied that he would fetch a policeman, whereupon the*prisoner redoubled his efforts to wriggle from the chimney, but only seei^cl to stick the firmer. The constable was fetched, but all efforts to release the prisoner, either from the top or bottom of the chimney, failed, and ultimately the chimney had to be pulled down. Then the prisoner was taken into custody. A dark lantern and a knife were found upon him. Tlio prisoner srdd he broke nothing and therefore could not see what " breaking in " there had been. The jury found " Guilty,'' and it was proved that he had been four times previously convicted. Prisoner was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment.
