UNITED VICTORY.

Friday, May 12. News from this mine is most encouraging. The rise and Irinse were connected on Thursday. It has been found that the run of stone taken up with the rise is not the same body of reef as that sunk on in the.winze from No. 1 level. This was not observed until a distance of about 64 feet had been risen, when tappings made to test the exact relative positions of the rise and winze showed that the latter was some distance to the eastward of the for* mer. A deviation was then made, and upon holing through it was found that the stone in the rise was 20 feet to the west of the winze. A cross-cut has now been started in order to prove the correctness' of surmises concerning the existence of two different reefs, and should they be'correct the supply of stone available will be unlimited. The crosscut just mentioned will be utilised^ «n intermediate level, from which stopes will be opened out. A considerable demand for shares In the company has already taken place, and since Thursday quotations have advanced to 275. During the week Mr A. Sligo, a gentleman deputed by the Dunedin shareholders to report upon the Company's mine and I understand his report is of a very satisfactory nature. The directors took advantage on Wednesday of the presence of Mr M'Queen, of the New Zaaland Foundry, Dunedin, who was also on a visit to this district, to obtain his opinion upon the crushing plant just completed by Mr T. Hungerford for the Company. Mr M'Queen's report is to the effect that the plans are compact and well-finished ; the only drawback being the likelihood of insufficiency of water. In reference to this it is probable the Company will construct a race from the right-hand branch of New Creek. On Wednesday, during the visit of Mr M'Queen, a small parcel of stone was crushed, and the battery worked smoothly and well, the stampers going as high as 84 beats to the minute.
