MISCELLANEOUS.

A newspaper at tlJausenbourg (Austria) publishes an account of the funeral of a veteran miKtiry man, a gentleman who was buried in that town recently. The gentleman's name was Daniel Kadasci and he had reached the advanced age of 102 years. He entered the Austrian army as a common soldier and fought through all the Napeleonic wars, at the end of which he was raised to the grade of captain. K adasci's corps formed a part of the mixed military escort that conducted Napoleon to the island of Elba aiter the first abdication. He retired from* active military pursuits nearly fifty years ago. The following story, which comes from San Francisco, is published . in a New York paper with the heading — Rather Hard to * Take in ' ":— Charles Dall and Harry Colton, members of the Olympic Club, were out duck scooting. While trying to cross one of the sloughs at the low tide Harry sank in soft mud up to his armpits. It was impossible for Charles to assist him, through, fear of him sinking also. The tide was rapidly coming in ; no time was to be lost, for in 20 minutes it would be over Harry's head. On the bank was a piece of gas pipe about sft long. This Mr Dall managed to get to Harry, who stuck in the mud, put it to his mouth, and, when the tide rose over his head, breathed through it for four hours while Charlie went for help to the drawbridge six miles away. He returned with ropes and when the tide receeded again rescued his friend who vas almost dead from exhaustion.
