MISCELLANEOUS.
Probably the most utterly infamous outrage of the present century was perpetrated by the miscreant who secretly introduced four dozen live lobsters into one of the Alameda tanks. The scene when the 1.30 train arrived on Sunday, and lobsters began prospecting around among the corns of some 400 bathers was said to-Jiaye been blood-curdling in the extreme. For the ensuing 15 minutes there was an average 10 women in the air all the time, and the number of bathing suits ruptured by the frantic endeavors of the wearers to get ashore was frightful to behold. The water was drawn off that afternoon, but, although the proprietor has been living on lobster salad ever since, he estimates the loss of public confidence in this resort at one million, with no insurance. " Some years ago Miss Libbie Minkler, of Rochelle, 111.' lost both arms by falling in front of a reaper. To day she is earning a good living by oil painting holding the brush in her teeth " The above item, now going the rounds, reminds us that this is the fir3t instance where a toothbrush was utilised in the pictorial art. Wonder if the young lady also utilises her palate. — Boston paper.
