COUNTY COUNCIL.
ORDINARY MONTHLY MEETING. After the conclusion of the special meeting, on Thursday last, the ordinary meeting was then gone on with. The minutes of the last meetings were re*vd and approved of. CORRESPONDENCE. The outward correspondence waß ap» proved of. A letter was received asking for a roa.d. to be made at Capleston. Another from Mr Wise, also asking for a road to be made to the Just-in-Time Company's mine. From Mr Moss, asking for a dray road to the Fiery Cross claim. A similar request was received from the; Welcome Company, for a road to their No. G level. The Chairman supported the npplica-. tion from the Welcome Company, and stated that they would be getting from thirty to forty tons of machinery within the next six months, and also spokq favorably of the other works being under-, taken. He referred to the large revenue the County had received from the mines; that would be benentted by the roada asked for, remarking that from the Welcome alone some £4200 had been re-, ceived. Mr Patterson did not think they could go to such a large expenditure at Boatman's this year, for other places required money as well, and in the outlying districts, the Big River track particularly, money was urgently needed for similar works. The Chairman thought all thp, roads should be made in different parts of the district, and they should not ho afraid to, get into debt to do so, as the Council would bo recouped from the increased gold yield. In reply to Mr Williams, the Chairman said he did not know what the cost would be. Mr Williams moved that a. dray road be made to the Fiery Cross battery for the present, and that tenders bo at onco be called for it. The Chairman again urged tho inakjng
of the road to No. G level of the Welcome Company. Eventually, Mr Williams moved that a r.md 10 feet wide from Capleston to the No. 6 level of the Welcome Company, should be mode Mr Craig seconded the resolution. Mr Patterson suggeitel that the matter should be adjourned, as £1500 was recently expended at Boatman's. He remarked on the fact that the Boatman's members were not present to pres» this claim. The motion was discussed for a very long time, but Mr Patterson objected, and the Council adjourned till 7 o'clock. At the expiration of the half hour's grace allowed on the presumed adjournment, only the Chairman and Mr Williams had put in an appearance, and the Council was then adjourned till the next tiay (Friday.) On that day, the business was again adjourned till this day, as only two members put in an appearance at the hour of adjournment.
