I R. Crabb, for the Gold Mining ! Company ; reconiinended. R. Roulston, for the Lucky Venture Gold Mining Company ; recommended. R. Roulston, for the Rolleston Gold Mining Company ; recommended. K. Uoulston, for theGarfield Company. The name .of" the company was altered to the OrienJ, .and the application recommended. > I D. Quigley, for the "Victorian (altered iio North Cross Keef) Gold-, Mining Oom--1 pany ; recommended! I G. C. Bowman, for the Keep-it-Dark Company. This application was objected to by Messrs Colljngs and Savage, on the ground of priority of application. Mr Jones appearfd for the objectors, and asked that the hearing of the application might be 1 adjourned. He said the i objectors contemplated taking certain steps to assert their claim to the Gem lease, a portion of which was claimed by i the Keep-it-Dark, Kclipse, Central, and other companies. The objectors had al- | ready commenced proceedings to assert their right to the ground. The matter had been brought before the Goldtields Committee in the House of ..Representatives, with the result that the committee recommended that the ground in dispute should, be granted to the objectors, but that could only be done by action in Supreme Court, and these proceedings were now pending, and formed the ground for asking for the adjournment. Mr Lynch, on behalf of the applicants, opposed the adjournment. The objectors had shown no sufficient reason for intering with the course of the application. K the objectors had been treated wrongly^ in relation to their application for the, Gem lease, their action was against the Government, and in no . way , concerned the Keep-it-Dark Company. . The Warden said even if he consented to recommend the application, he should feef bound to acquaint the Government with the fact that the title to. the ground was in dispute, and this would probably have the effect of inducing the Governor to withhold the grant, pending a settlement of the dispute. He thought it best, therefore, to yield the.- adjournment in proceedings. The application would, in any case, hthre to be adjourned for survey, and that would give the objectors the time they required, Adjourned accordingly. The following applications for leases were adjourned for survey { — Sultan, Golden Bar, Jersey, Inangahua Valley, Cosmopolitan, Chester, Worth Oriental, Koyal George, Jupiter,' Shamrock, Golden Arch, Anuandale, Clunes, Bannockburn.
