UNITED ALPINE,
There is no change to report at this mine. The rise from No. 5 level is now up about 85 feet. Stoping in this portion of the mine is being carried on as usual, the reef being of the same dimensions as when last reported upon. The extension of No. 5 level still continues but no quartz has yet been met with. The contract for construction of paddock and shoot between Nos. 4 and 5 levels is at present at a standstill, owing to some difficulty which has arisen. No. 6 level, the contractors are just finishing, and the new contract for a further extension of 500 feet closes to-morrow night. At the battery, operations were at a standstill since last Saturday until Wednesday afternoon, owing to one of the columns having been broken. The accident was caused by a large log, which was being brought out of the bush, breaking away and going through the battery house, striking the column with such force as to snap it in two. Repairs were completing on Wednesday afternoon, when the stamps were once more set in motion.
