Still cross-cutting the large reef upon which operations have for some time past been directed. A drupe is now being put. through tha-lddq, with tlie view of 'ascertaining exact dimensions. The stone outcrops in many places, and although so far nothing big has yet been obtained, several encouraging prospects have been washed from different parts of the reef, and there is every probability of highly payable good gold being ' struck. The reef is believed to be the same as that upon which the United Alpine Company are operating, and as soon as the present surface prospecting is finished, a level at a : low depth will be driven to intersect the stone. Should this reef be proved to carry payable gold, the company will have along "innings," as the stone covers a very large portion of the lease.
