An adjourned meeting of gentlemen interested in the proposed City Tramway Company was held this afternoon, when Mr Proudfoot offered to dispose of his right, title and interest in the tramway for £65,000. The offer was accepted subject to a company being floated. Provisional directors were appointed, and steps were taken to drew up an agreement. The National Mortgage Agency Company have concluded arrangements for opening a branch in Melbourne. Mr James Whitelaw, auctioneer, died this morning. An authoritative contradiction is given to the report that a change is to be made in the management of the branch Bank of New Zegland at Dunedin. At the police court this morning Mr Fitchett was fined 50s. and costs for the assault on Mr !- ievewright. CimisTCHimcii, 30. The Railway Department has refused to abate a nuisance on their premises at JjKaiapoi and returned a contemptuous answer to the local Board of Health.
