THE WEEK.

[FKOii'oun Mixing I.EroiiTEK.] m* '■ ' «• • Saturday, September J ( >-^ The last week has not \>eeri\bfs*(vJ!f& ful in results, but progress has been made iv all the mines that is amply sufficient to assure shareholders as to the value of their investments. The share market lias been somewhat dull, though is no reason whatever for any diminution of confidence in the ventures undertaken, as will be seen by subjoined returns. The Welcome Company's crushing for the week has buen exceedingly good, the DO tons put through the null having nearly averaged 2 ounces per ton. The Keep it Dark's return is not so good, but the company has been crushing inferior stone to make room. At Boatman's some excitement has been occasioned through the Southern Cross striking a well defined reef, and the holders of scrip are jubilant in consequence. From Devil's Creek excellent .accounts have come to hand. On Saturday some specimens from the Great Western were brought in showing very heavy gold, and it is needless to say, shares went up immediately. This claim being next to the Surprise had the effect of raising the value of that property, and will have the further eft'ect of causing greatly increased work in the lucky district. The Globe is only one claim from the Great Western, the Union intervening, and the whole line of this reef is evidently going to turn out admirably. It may be noted that within the last few weeks foreign capital is far more abundant, and, the value of the reefs having been most satisfactorily proved, there is little difficulty in floating any legitimate mining enterprise. ihe only batteries crushing during the past week in the district, were the Welcome, and the Keep-it-dark, the returns from which were published in our last issue.
