There was a presumption that he had committsd the act as a drunken freak, and the jury found him not guity. John Maddon, John Mason, and James Henry, were charged with stealing £20, from Alexander Leckie, at the Hunt Club races. - The jury found the three guilty, but 5 recommended Mason to the leniency ' of the Court, sentence was deferred. I | The Papakario murder case was 1 ] heard on Tuesday. No true bill was found in the case of Thos. M'Gill, I charged with arson in the arcade. There are 27 witnesses in the murder - case. " October 3. 1 At the Supreme Court to-day, John P ' Mason and Jas. llenry,were sentenced i to 6 months imprisonment, and John j Madden to three years. \ i Mr Stout wished Mason's case rej served for the Appeal Court, as lie contended that only a case of simple , larceny had been made out, but the : jury held there was sufficient evidence to support the indictment. | In the case of the lads Williamson \ | and Them, charged with burglariously ( entering several offices in town, the , ! Crown's case rested entirely on the un- , : supported testimony of an accomplice, j Jones, who yesterday pleaded guilty. t ! The judge directed the jury to acquit the prigoners, which was done.
