EXCHANGE HOTEL.
BROADWAY, REEFTON. The new Exchange Hotel, just completed by Mr Kater, is a most creditable addition to the buildings of Reefton, and deserves more than a passing
notice. The old hotel was burnt down 1 on thai lth of January last, and the i present one, Phoenix like, has arisen on the ashes of its predecessor. The new house occupies just twice the area that i the old one did, covering as it does a i space of 35ft. x 64ft 6in, On the ground floor there is a bar and bar parlor, each 24 x 14ft; a hall, Bft wide, a commercial and sitting room, each 14ft x 14ft, and a billiard room is about to be added. In addition to these there are four bedrooms which are occupied by the family, the dining room, 24ft x 14ft, and kitchen adjoining. In the yard the out offices, kitchen, etc., are situated. On the first floor the bath will be built out from the house, and there are eleven bedrooms of good size, and 12ft in height, in addition to a drawing room and a parlor and bedroom en sitte, for persons wishing pr vate apartments. From this floor a splendid view of Reefton can be obtained, as it commands the Broadway, the Buller and Grey roads, and a large extent of country. We omitted to say that all the rooms on the ground floor have a height of lAfc Gin. Tho proprietor hassnM«gtegH»sr pains nor expense in^T^Hffl^HWond %Sftrjlishing'. the new hotel, and it promises to be one of the most comfortable, as well us convenient, in Reefton. Every bit of the fui'niture is brand new, and the rooms are well and tastefully filled. The corridors on the first floor are spacious, and there is a back stair leading from it, affording ready egress in case of fire, as well as a large tank so as to obtain a ready supply of water. The contractors were Henderson, Long and Nicholas, and they have clone their work well. Altogether the new building is a credit to that end of the turn, and its erection tends to prove that the residents of Reefton have full confidence in its future, when they put up buildings at such a cost, to replace those that have been destroyed by tire. We are sure that all will wish Mr Kater, as an old resident, all success in the house just completed.
