REEFTON RAILWAY LEAGUE.

* A public meeting of the League was held at the Chambers, on Wednesday evening last. Mr R. Oxley was voted to the chair. The chairman explained that the meeting had been convened for the purpose of receiving the report of the Executive Committee showing the action taken by them in re railway matters generally. The next business was to elect additional members to the Executive Committee* , The Secretary having made a statement of the business done. Mr A. Campbell moved and Mr Graham seconded — " That in view of the necessity for steady and continued agitation on the part of the Reefton Railway League to accomplish the end sought viz., railway connection with Canterbury, it is desirable that no effort should be spared, or opportunity lost, to further the movement, and to meet this object the Executive Committee be strengthened by the election of additional members. The resolution was put, and carried unanimously. The Chairman then called for nominations, when the following gentleman were duly elected as additional members of the Executive Committee : — Messrs J. Connolly, 3. McGaflfin, A. Pickering, I. Lewis, 0. B. King, T. Hunter, J. Trennery, W. H. Hobby, M. Byrne, G. Joice, P. Mraual, W. Dunn, C. Cohen, A. Kater, A. Main, H. Masters, and R. Dykes. On the motion of Mr Connolly seconded by Mr Graham it was resolved that the Executive Committee be empowered to add additional members to their number should they deem it necessary. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the proceedings. The Executive committee subsequently met, when the minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Inward correspondence was read from the Secretary Dunedin Oh amber of Commerce, Chairman Waimea County, J. Petrie Esq., M.H.tt, A.D. BayfeildEsq., who also forwarded a map showing IN elson pastoral runs. The correspondence as read having been received, Mr Gardner drew attention to the fact that in the map just produced there was a very material error in the situation of the Ada Pass, and he offered to establish the truth of his assertion. After some discussion on the subject, it was resolved that a circular letter be addressed to the various corporate bodies interested, as well as the "Railway Commissioners, delegates and representatives in the Assembly, acquainting them of the error pointed out by Mr Gardner in the map, together with a report upon the practicability of the Cannibal Gorge route. On the motion of Mr Gardner, seconded by Mr Connolly, the secretary was instructed to procure a map of the district, showing the true situation of the Cannibal Gorge. The meeting then adjourned.
