EIGHT MILE.
MARtTIA. Ihe only work at present in hand by this company is extension of inter- ! mediate level to meet the under ly of the rich leader worked in the upper level. It is in about 185 feet, and it is estimated that about another 150 feet will strike the stone. Mr William Gardner, the company's sur- j veyor, has just made a general survey I of the property in order that a definite course of operations may be determined. The most important work will probably be the construction of a low level to prove the various reefs existing in the claim ; the site for this level i 3
laid off Ie laid off a machine site a short distance below the United Italy battery, and the old Litter Wonder battery will be removed to this site in due course. UNITED ITA Y. This week a start was made in the low level on the south side of the creek, from which highly payable stone was formely worked by the orginal shareholders. There are several veins of quartz close to each other, averaging together about a footh in thickness, and as the stone has been worked no distance from the actual level, the company will no doubt be handsomely recouped for the labour expended in prospecting it On the north side of the creek the usual quantity of stone is soming out of the stopes, and the battery is kept regularly employed.
