A notification appears in the last Government Gazette, stating that at a general meeting of shareholders in the Victory Company, lieeftun, held at the Company's office, on the 25th October, 188?, a special resolution was passed " that this company be wound up voluntarily, and that Mr R. J. Scoltock be. appointed Liquitlator." It is notified in the Government Gazette that Henry Lucas, Esq., has been appointed Sheriff for the district of Central Westland, vice M. Price Esq., resigned. Tenders are invited by the Ballarat and the Republic Companies, Lyell, reß- j pectively, for driving 600 ft of tunnel for each. The draft of underground mining rules for the future conduct of workings in the luangahua has been prepared, and is now in course of being printed for public infor--1 mation. Under the ines Act a printed sheet containing the wjiole of the rules has to be kept posted in a conspicuous place on each mine for fourteen days, the expiration of which time, the rules are forwarded to the Government for approval and upon the endorsement of the Minister being obtained the regulations are to be considered in full force. Each miner employed in the mines is then bound to obtain a copy of the rules, and to make himself conversant therewith. Mr H. Clapcott's lecture and popular readings will be given to-night, at 8 o'clock in the Odfellows Hall, to which admission will be free. Mr Clapcott specially requests the honour of the presence of the ladies, an invitation, by the way, which has always been well responded to elsewhere. Mr Clapcott, as a lecturer and reader, is spoken of in the highest terms by the Press throughout the Colony, so that not only an instructive, but also an amusing, and very pleasant evening may be anticipated by those who attend at the hatl to-night. Mr Olapcott's advertisement appears in another column.
