INANGAHUA COUNTY COUNCIL.

*-^- A Special Meeting of tho Council was held at the Council Chambers. Present Mr P. Brennan (Chair\ Measure Irving, Williams, Byrne and Craig. The Chairman explained the object of the meeting, whereupon, it was movod by Mr Byrne, and seconded by Mr Craig, that thia Council do make its own valuation of the County of Inangahua, under the powers in that behalf vested in it by the 11th section of the Rating Act, 1882. Carried. The meeting lapsed at 8.30 p.m. The Annual Meeting of the County Council was held at the Chambers on Wednesday, November 22nd., 1882, at 12 o'clock noon. Present, Mr P. Brennan, (Chair), Messrs Byrne, Williams, Ribit and Feehan. The Chairman explained the object of the meeting, when it was proposed by Mr Byrne, and seconded by Mr Ribit, that Mr Patrick Brennan be Chairman of the Inangahua County Council for the next ensuing 12 months. Carried. The meeting lapsed at 12.15. The ordinary meeting of the County Council was held at the Council Chambers Reef ton on Wednesday, November 22, 1882 at 8 p.m. Present : Mr P. Brennan (Chairman) and Messrs Byne, Ribet, Craig, Williams, and Irving. The miuutea of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The correspondence sent and received w&8 then, read and dealt with as followi:—From Wm. Heaphy requesting the Council to construct a box drain on Black's Point road. Resolved that the engineer be instructed to construct the box drain as prayed. From the manager of the Inaugahua gold mining lease, making application for the use of the diamond drill. JKesolvod that tho application be granted in the order in which it was received, and that Mr Hindmarsh be informed of such. I rom James Barrowman, requesting the Council to cause the removal of certain fences off Anderson-st. &c. Resolved that the engineer be instructed to enquire into the matter of^Vfr Barrowman's complaint, and report to Council at next meeting. From the Secretary of the Treasury, forwarding revenue for the month of October. From Thos. H. May, asking the Council for a refund of his license fee. Mr Patterson here took his seat. Proposed by Mr Ribet, and seconded by Mr Irving that the sum of £9, be refunded to Mr May, carried. From the manager of tho Orintal Company, complaining of the road laid off by the Council. The Engineer was instructed to make the necessary deviation, &c., &., From Mr W. Hobby, re diamond drill. From James Billet, complaining of the state of repair of Boatman's Creek c .ossing. From John Oxnan, asking the Council for a lease for 14 years of the ferry reserve at the Owen River. Proposed by Mr Ribet that in the event of the ferry reserve being vested in the Council that Mr Oxnan get a ieaso of it for a ternKJ*T.l4 years, seconded by Mr Williams,' and carried. From Mr Jones, re Silcock's claim. Proposed by Mr Byrne that the sutn of £25, be offered Mr Silcock (without prejudice), in full satisfaction for the land taken by the Council from him, seconded by Mr Craig, and carried. From the Public Works Department, re the maintenance of certain main roads. From the Department of Justice, re the verdict of the Coroner's Jury at Black's Point, re state of suspension bridge. From the Under-Secretary for Goldfields stating a subsidy of L 2, to LI, would be granted for the construction of prospecting track from Capleston to Larry's Creek. From John Lynch, objecting to the making of the road applied for by Caird and Roxborough. Proposed by Mr Byrne, and seconded by Mr Irving, that the correspondence as read be received. Carried. Mr Williams presented a petition from A. Duncan and others, praying the Council to construct a track from Boatman's to Murray Gully. Proposed by Mr Byrne and seconded by Mr Craig, that the petition be read and received. Carried. The report of Messrs Young Bros, on the water scheme's was then read and received. Proposed by Mr Irving that the manager of the Wealth of Nations Co. be written to asking if his company would be willing to allow the Council to use the water from the wheel of the company's battery as a water supply for the town of Reefton, seconded by Mr Williams, and carried. Proposed by Mr Brennan that a sur-
