One Jean Condoist has been brought to Paris as a medical curiosity from the Haute Saone. According to a medical contributor to a Parisian contemporary, this youth, aged 19, took a start on the 17th May, 1881, being then six feet three inches high, and found one morning that he had grown an inch. Every week since then as he registered himself, and on the 14th of September this human beanstalk had gained nearly five inches ; he grew five inches more before the 20th of January, 1882, and seven more before March 15th, and he now stands seven feet ten inches. A gigantic clock has just been com- \ pleted by Messrs Lund it Blockley, of London, at the instance of Mr Premchund Roychund, a well-known native of Bombay. Some time ago this gentleman intimated to the Indian Government his desire to present Bombay University with a new clock and carillons, and, his munificent offer havirg been gratefully accepted, deposited a large sum of money with the authoiities, requesting them to lay it out on his behalf in the manner indicated. Its dials are 13 fept in diameter, of opal glass ; it is fitted with an apparatus enabling it to telegraph its time daily to the Observatory and synchronise to correct all the other clocks in the University and Bombay City. Connected with it is a carillon of 16 bells, weighing about 12 tons, cast in the ateliers of Messrs Taylor, it Co., which can play 16 tunes and 150 'changes;' besides ' firing 'at full speed, as smartly as though the peal were being chimed by expert ringers.
