MISCELLANEOUS.
'■• ' . ♦ The residents of Reefton are very anxious to compass a daily mail between their district and Christchurch, the interest- taken lately here in mining matters about Reefton having rendered the presentmail arrangements, by which ' a letter is a week travelling from one , place to the other — far too slow to meet 1 the requirements of business men. i There is already a bridle road from ''■ Reefton to the Maruia river, near the : Spencer Ranges. The Reefton County Council have .decided, to devote a ' moiety of the Government grant to ! continue the track to the Ada Pass, ; and all that is now required is for the I A.muri County Council to carry. th« track ; from thereon to the Hanmer Plain where i it would join the high road, which meets the railway line at Waikari. If this were done, there would be no difficulty j in establishing a daily through mail on I horseback, and we understand that the AmurL Council will be urged to do their small part of the work. . Once the track is finished there is little doubt that the Government -would accede to the request of the residents of Reefton ; i bat should they not do so, the Reefton >people are quite prepared to establish to daily through mail at their own expense. West Coasters don't see the force of : letting the grass grow under their feet Lyttelton Times.
