The Inangahua Times. PUBLIBHED TRI- WEEKLY. WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 13, 1882.

The Nelson people have at last obtained an official airing of all their grievances on railway matters, and the local papers are teeming with reports of the evidence tendered to the Royal Commission lately sitting there. We publish to-day a portion of the evidence brought forward in support of the Central line, but to re-publish the whole of it would be rather a big undertaking, It is shown that near Nelson, the gradient would be something like 1 in 87, which is stated to be the heaviest on the line, the midland portion of the route presenting nothing worse than 1 in 48. We do not think, however, that it is claimed for these figures that they are more than mere approximations, but it seems from a hurried glance through the evidence that Nelson has succeeded in making out a very good case for the Central line, as against that via the East Coast.
