EIGHT-MILE.

UtfITED ITALY. This company cleaned up on Saturday last, 82 tons of stone having been reduced during the month. The yield of retorted gold was 70 oz 10 dwt, or about 17dwt 2grs per ton— a very satisfactory impiovement upon the return from the previous crushing, more especially when it is considered that the stone was taken out by only two men from a space covered by eight or nine sets of stoping timber. The reef has latterly shown a tendency to increase in size, being about 6 feet wide. The battery will be kept going constantly upon this stone, and with a continuation of the above excellent returns, the directors should be in a position to proceed with the erection of more adequate crushing power. On the south side of the creek, the rise from " Potter's level " is being continued upon very good stone, which, however, is not being put through the battery. MARTJIA. At a distance of 290 feot in the inter mediate level a. rich gold-bearing

leader was struck on Tuesday last. The stone was met about 40 feet short of the point indicated in Mr Gardner's survey as that where the underlay of the leader worked in the upper level should be caught, so that the present discovery is doubtless an entirely distinct run of stone. One pound weight of the stone crushed in a mortar yesterday gave the really handsome return of 8 grains of gold. Taking the general run of the leaders worked in this locality, the present find should be worth at the very least 4 to 6 ounces per ton.
